The Briscoe Brothers were both a big part of the conversation when ROH nixed their contracts. They threw some bombs online at Tony Khan and AEW’s tag team division, but their arrival never happened. There is a reason for that.

According to Fightful someone in WarnerMedia isn’t too hot on Dem Boys. It is reported that a “person of influence” within WarnerMedia didn’t want All Elite Wrestling signing the Briscoes.

It should be stated that we’re not even sure of the interest on All Elite Wrestling’s part, but if was confirmed to us by WarnerMedia sources that a person of influence in the company did not want the duo signed to AEW, specifically due to Jay Briscoe’s homophobic tweets from 2013.

They apologize for those tweets, but the damage was obviously done. We reported a few months ago that those tweets never really went away, and it looks like that is exactly what happened.

It was also noted that, “Both Briscoes and FTR are open to the idea of facing each other, and multiple promoters have indicated to Fightful that they’ve wanted to book the match and were willing to pay significant money by indie standards to make it happen.”

We can never say never in pro wrestling, but there is a reason why the Briscoe Brothers aren’t mixing it up on, arguably, the best tag team division on planet earth.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
