Cody Rhodes was unexpectedly pulled from his scheduled TNT Championship match against Sammy Guevara at tonight’s AEW Battle of the Belts. Guevara will now face Cody’s brother, Dustin Rhodes. The winner will be named the interim TNT Champion.

Cody revealed the reason for his absence on his Instagram Story. Rhodes said that he and Brandi are currently in isolation with family. A Rhodes family member recently tested positive for COVID-19.

“I appreciate everybody reaching out. Brandi and I are in isolation with family that have unfortunately tested positive for Covid. It’s been a scary time dealing with such a strong virus and the complications that can come with it. We are doing all we can to nurse and protect the family during this time. I will remain in quarantine as long as needed.

Everyday is more encouraging. Thank you immensely for your support and respect of our privacy. Thank you to AEW for understanding and allowing me to be where I am needed today, and for still allowing the TNT Title to be represented. I look forward to being back soon. All the love in the world!”

AEW Battle of the Belts is not the first pro wrestling event that has been thrown off course by the pandemic virus. WWE had to call an audible when Roman Reigns tested positive before facing Brock Lesnar at Day 1. Impact pulled The Iinspiration from the Hard to Kill PPV card after being exposed to COVID.

Cody Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes are taking the steps they believe are best for their family. AEW fans will still get to see a TNT Championship match. As soon as the Rhodes’ COVID situation is cleared up, Cody will be back to face the interim champ.
