WWE has been cleaning house once again. The target this time were the behind-the-scenes staff in Orlando at NXT. The most surprising release of all was William Regal. Regal was one of the most widely respected employees working for the brand.

The past few days also saw the release of WWE veteran Road Dogg. Both he and brother Scott Armstrong were cut from their positions. It was still William Regal’s ouster that stung the most in the NXT locker room.

The NXT releases were discussed in depth in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Dave Meltzer noted that many NXT wrestlers were unhappy with the decision to move on from Regal. Talent will miss the wealth of wrestling knowledge he brought to the table.

“Talent and others in the system were very depressed, with many wondering the future of the brand. Regal was responsible for many getting chances and he’s one of the most knowledgeable people about wrestling worldwide and was heavily respected across the board. I can tell you that some of the biggest names in the business would to this day come to him for advice on wrestling and career decisions.”

Regal was the on-air authority figure in NXT for years. His Lordship also commanded a ton of respect and admiration from the NXT wrestlers and served as a mentor over the years. Several WWE contracted talents expressed their sadness over his departure.

William Regal would make a great addition to any wrestling promotion. Few in the business share his incredible depth of wrestling know-how. Regal will surely find a new home in no time if he wants to.
