Matt Striker was recently fired from his position as commentator for Impact Wrestling. The release came as a surprise to many since Striker and D’Lo Brown were seen as a stabilizing presence in a position that had in the past been a revolving door. Striker did not let on as to the reason for being cut at the time he announced that he was leaving the company.

It appears that the firing was performance related. Striker has a lot of experience as a wrestling commentator in several companies including WWE, AAA, and Lucha Underground. That experience wasn’t enough to please the folks in charge at Impact.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer talked about Matt Striker’s release from Impact Wrestling. The move has been in the work for months. The company will now have to scramble to find a replacement as the Hard to Kill pay-per-view is coming up soon.

“Matt Striker, how had been the lead announcer, was let go this past week. Management wasn’t happy with his performance that this is something that had been in the works for months. There is no word on the replacement but obviously something is in the works since they are doing a PPV and television this week.”

Striker brings over a decade of experience at the announcer’s table to any company that is looking for a new voice. Matt Striker’s time with Impact Wrestling is over. It probably won’t be long before he finds a new home to share his pro wrestling knowledge.
