Paul Heyman was recently fired as the manager of Roman Reigns on SmackDown. The two had a remarkable run together. Reigns went from having “go away” heat from fans to being the company’s legitimate top heel.

WWE has teased all kinds of potential swerves in the storyline. The firing of Heyman was hinted at for quite some time. The company might have plans for an even bigger surprise twist at the Day 1 pay-per-view.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discussed the possibility for a major swerve in their Universal Championship match. It is known that WWE plans for the two to have a series of title matches. That gives them leeway to go in several directions.

“There are different ways they can go, including a Lesnar title win to set up a WrestleMania rematch, or Lesnar on the verge of winning and it comes out that the Heyman firing was a ruse and he double-crosses Lesnar. The idea should be what is the best way to build WrestleMania. It also could be that a Heyman double-cross of Lesnar could be saved for WrestleMania.”

The payoff to any potential swerve will likely come in the main event of WrestleMania. There are plenty of intriguing possibilities regarding how the feud could end. It will ultimately be up to Vince McMahon.

Roman Reigns’ association with Paul Heyman finally got the fans to take him seriously. He was seen for years as somebody the company kept trying to push without any justification. Heyman pushed him over the top. Soon, fans will get a chance to see if the Big Dog can make it on his own as this exciting storyline concludes in early 2022.
