Kenny Omega dropped the AEW World Title and took a hiatus from television. Injuries and other real-life situations can often derail even the most compelling pro wrestling storylines. The many bumps and long trips certainly take their toll on the performers themselves. It is simply a part of the business that cannot be avoided.

Adam Page winning the AEW World Championship was the culmination of a two-year story arc that began on the day the company started. His match with Kenny Omega at Full Gear and his subsequent time-limit draw with Bryan Danielson solidified Hangman as a legitimate star. Omega’s banged-up body almost made that payoff impossible.

The Cleaner fought through a series of injuries to complete the storyline at Full Gear. He announced in the immediate aftermath that he needed surgery and time off to heal. It was miracle that he was able to perform at such a high level, as he was experiencing vertigo and a wrecked shoulder, among other ailments.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on his status. There is still no timetable for Omega’s return to the ring. The former AEW champ will continue to heal his injuries as others step into the main event scene.

“At this point there is no firm timetable for Kenny Omega’s return.”

AEW is fortunate to have a wealth of talent on their current roster. Page and Danielson are engaged in a compelling feud over the title. Top-end talent from outside the company continue to fill the gap left by Omega. Plans likely already changed after Jon Moxley announced that he was taking time away.

Pro wrestling is a fluid business. Injuries can change everything in a heartbeat. Kenny Omega is taking as long as it takes to get back to 100% so he can continue to deliver as the Best Bout Machine for years to come.
