Damian Priest started his current character arc as a positive, fun-loving character. Since a no DQ match against T-Bar on the November 1 WWE Raw, he’s had more of an aggressive edge. He recently talked about the reason for the change in direction.

Speaking with Rise & Grind, Damian talked about his new attitude. He said just because his character behaves differently doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. He’s letting the story dictate where he goes with things.

“It is a new attitude because I’m showing something different. I like to describe it, we all have it in us to be good or bad. We consciously make a decision to choose one. I’m just letting actions and circumstances dictate what comes out of me now.

If you disrespect me, you’re probably going to get the other side of me that’s not so nice. I’m a nice guy, I’m a good dude, but I can get dark and that’s what I’m showing off now. You push me to the other side, you’re not going to like it.”

Damian Priest is the reigning WWE United States Champion. He defeated Sheamus for the title at SummerSlam. Since then, he’s been working hard to elevate the championship via the new attitude after a period where the belt was stagnant. He was defeated by Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura by disqualification at Survivor Series.

Damian defended the title successfully against Sami Zayn recently. He defeated Apollo Crews on Monday’s Raw. Perhaps these character changes can bring some life back into the US Title scene.
