CM Punk’s debut two months ago at AEW Rampage: The First Dance truly changed the pro wrestling world for many fans. Since his debut Punk has been a regular feature on AEW television. It seems Tony Khan made an interesting claim about CM Punk recently.

CM Punk has been competing in several matches on AEW Rampage since his debut and most of them have been well received by fans and critics alike. He has also competed on AEW Dynamite and his storylines are always given a lot of focus.

Last month’s episode of AEW Rampage managed to beat Friday Night Smackdown in the target 18 to 49 demographic during their half-hour overlap. That wasn’t all as Ruby Soho’s match with The Bunny tied with the Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar segment in the 18-49 demographic.

While speaking on The Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz, AEW President Tony Khan talked about the 30 minute head-to-head battle with Friday Night Smackdown. Khan claimed that CM Punk decisively beat Smackdown in ratings during his segment.

“CM Punk won his segment decisively, and then the second segment, which was Ruby Soho vs. The Bunny, two female wrestlers who fans had been just really mean to and said, ‘Your segments not going to do well.’ Ruby Soho is a big star who had been fired from WWE just months earlier,” Khan said. “And they went up against a contract signing of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.

If you look at it, they tied it, but in their 15 minute quarter, that’s where I pushed all six minutes of the commercials, so actually, without the commercials, they would have beaten that segment. And then the previous 15-minute quarter was CM Punk and Matt Sydal head to head with Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks, and that is a big match. And our match was a big match too, and it decisively beat their match.”

It was also said that TNT executives want to build around CM Punk. Punk is slated to face off against Eddie Kingston at AEW Full Gear on November 13th. It remains to be seen if Punk will be able to win the match or not.
