Cody Rhodes has been the topic of a lot of controversy among wrestling fans. The American Nightmare has been booed out of several buildings by crowds that aren’t buying him as white bread babyface. He’s been trying to win the people back, most recently by teaming with fan favorite underdog Fuego Del Sol under a mask.

Now, Cody has taken to Twitter to share an interesting reaction to Eddie Kingston‘s emotional Players Tribune essay. The All Elite Wrestling EVP said it was the fans who brought the Mad King to the company. Sometimes, the strategy of begging on social media works out.

“I know people complain about social, but all the fans who got on here and called for this supreme talent to enter my open challenge deserve a round of applause as well. This beast cut a promo on me from literally somebody’s back yard – and y’all made sure I saw it. Beautiful.”

Kingston was brought in for a match with Cody Rhodes in 2020 after challenging Cody in the aforementioned backyard promo. He was hired after the match. Since then, he has become one of the top stars in AEW.

Due to the pandemic restrictions of the time, Kingston was unable to work and was going broke. He even sold his gear to pay for his mortgage. The challenge came at a time of desperation for Eddie. He took a gamble with his challenge, and it paid off when fans insisted that Cody take a look.

Eddie Kingston is primed for the biggest match of his professional wrestling career. He will take on CM Punk on Saturday, November 20 at AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view. After hearing stories like this, it’s no wonder that fans have gotten behind the Mad King.
