Matt Riddle and WWE legend Bill Goldberg have an interesting history together. Despite an ongoing war of words and endless smack talk, the two have shown that they can respect each other and be professional when they need to. Now the two have patched things up.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Riddle recalled the conversation he had with Goldberg on the flight home from Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. The superstar said that while he’s a known trash talker, Goldberg understands that Riddle is just doing his job. They discussed the situation and worked things out.

“Everybody here knows I can throw down and I’m going to talk sh*t. It’s one of those things where I can’t change that. I talk trash. For me, isn’t that my job? Make people care about what we’re doing and talk trash so people say ‘oh man, I’d watch that fight!’ or is it real? That’s my job, that’s what I do. And it rubs some people the wrong way. But at the end of the day, even Bill [Goldberg] and maybe one day a certain Beast, they come to understand what I’m trying to do. Bill and I had a conversation. It was like ‘Bill, I’m sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way’ on the way back from Saudi Arabia. We were on the plane, had a couple of cocktails. I’m not saying we’re best friends, but we are doing way better than we were. I think just us talking and seeing him work [longer matches this year], you just get to know somebody and understand them. He’s like me; if you just listen to the dirt sheets or watch me do interviews, you might hate me [laughs]. But in real life, I’m a pretty nice guy. I talk crap, but that’s just to drum up interest. He realises that – I think we’re all good.”

It sounds like all Riddle needed to do to get on Goldberg’s good side was explain that the whole thing was a work. He’s just playing his character. He explained to the former WCW and WWE (Universal and World Heavyweight) champion that he’s just trying to get eyes on the product.

As Eric Bischoff famously said, controversy creates cash. According to Matt, that’s all that’s going on. He gets paid to be an obnoxious fighter who runs his mouth. He’s apparently good enough at it that he needed to offer an explanation to Bill Goldberg himself.

Riddle is currently one half of RK-Bro, the WWE Raw Tag Team champions, with Randy Orton. Neither man was selected for their respective Survivor Series team. As of now, the team does not have a match set for the pay-per-view.

Do you think Riddle was really working Goldberg the whole time? Let us know in the comments!
