CM Punk Is Certain Team With Sting Will Happen In AEW

CM Punk left WWE back in 2014 after the Royal Rumble pay-per-view and since then he vowed never to step foot inside a pro wrestling ring ever again. Of course, he broke his promise as Punk debuted on this week’s AEW Rampage: The First Dance. He was in talks with AEW for quite long time too.

CM Punk also chose Darby Allin as his first opponent for his in-ring return in well over seven years and he had very good reason for picking Darby Allin in the first place.

CM Punk showed no ring rust as he battled Darby Allin in an evenly contested match which ultimately saw The Second City Saint pull off the win. After the match, he had a handshake with Sting which was not part of the plan.

While speaking on post-show media scrum, CM Punk revealed that it is unlikely he’ll ever face Sting but is almost certain the two will team up in AEW somewhere down the line.

“Without ever having a bucket list, it’d be hard for me to write things down because I’ve done so many cool things, but yeah, that’s one of them, that’s a bucket list thing. It’s an item that I never thought I would, you know, because your brain doesn’t go there. We were never in the same company at the same time with two different generations of wrestlers and you just, you never thought it was possible, and now it is. That’s kind of how I feel about the entire groundswell of AEW as a whole, you know, like you got me, Darby and Sting in a ring and it’s legitimately three different generations, you know?

It feels like there’s something there and there’s real organic moments here. Like him coming out and shaking my hand. We didn’t talk about that. That wasn’t a planned thing. He came out and he did it. Before I shook his hand, I looked at him and I was like, ‘This means something to a kid like me,’ and he said, ‘It means something to me too, you know?’ That’s, that’s wild to me. That’s the playground we have here, where we could do all the stuff that you didn’t ever think was possible.”

We will have to wait and see when Sting and CM Punk will team up, as it might be a long time for that to happen. Until then, it remains to be seen who CM Punk will feud against next.
