CM Punk made his All Elite Wrestling debut on last month’s AEW Rampage: The First Dance, move that created a lot of buzz for the company. Tony Schiavone considered it the greatest debut in pro wrestling history.

Punk himself absolutely loved his AEW debut and he has singlehandedly became the most talked-about pro wrestler on the planet right now, much to the delight of Mick Foley.

CM Punk chose Darby Allin as his first opponent as the two clashed at AEW All Out. It was Punk’s first match since 2014 and many wondered how he’d perform. Thankfully, CM Punk performed as well as fans expected as he defeated Darby Allin in the match.

While speaking at the media scrum after AEW All Out, CM Punk revealed why he chose Darby Allin as his first opponent. It came down to Allin being different from the rest.

“There’s a reason that he (Darby Allin) was the first guy I came back to wrestle. There’s something about him. He’s different. He’s good, and in the hierarchy of AEW, it wouldn’t make any sense for CM Punk to come right in and go after Kenny Omega. Doesn’t mean that Darby is any less talented. It’s just if there is a hierarchy with wins and losses and where people are, I thought Darby was a great start because he’s a great opponent. The fans love him, and I thought that we did a great job of not trying to sway that. To me, pro wrestling is the best when everybody involved in something comes out looking better, and hopefully, we accomplish that tonight,”

Now that CM Punk defeated Darby Allin at AEW All Out, we will have to wait and see what is next in store for him in the company.
