Samoa Joe is heavy favorite to replace William Regal as commissioner of NXT. That role could open up a lot of possibilities for Samoa Joe on the black and gold brand, but don’t expect him to wrestle.

Joe was injured while filming that Must Be Monday commercial. That concussion caused him to miss a lot of time in the ring. He briefly returned, but then he was injured again. A stint on the RAW announce team followed, but then he was released.

Dave Meltzer made it very clear on Wrestling Observer Radio that Samoa Joe is very likely not cleared to compete. That being said, no other company could really use him as a wrestler either. So, that might play into why he’s coming back to NXT.

“Joe is in, and he’s in as a non-wrestler. So, I think that tells you that he’s not cleared so even if you wanted him to go to another company, if he’s not medically cleared that is probably, I don’t want to say impossible, because we’ve seen too many examples of people who were not medically cleared for life who end up wrestling again, so, it’s just what it is. You know he’s taking a job in NXT and he’d doing something there. He may be the new authority figure on television — he may not be, but he’s doing something behind the scenes.”

We’ll have to see how NXT decides to use Samoa Joe. Odds are they will do the most they can with him. Samoa Joe has a ton of veteran experience that could really benefit those NXT wrestlers. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see. Don’t get your hopes up that Joe will wrestle again any time soon.
