AEW had a lot of plans in place before the pandemic. They were able to carry on with a few of those ideas, but other things needed to wait. Jungle Boy is getting a big push right now, but that should have happened a while ago.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about Jungle Boy. He stated that AEW wanted to go with his push while Chris Jericho was AEW World Champion, but a pandemic got in the way. Now they are going from zero to sixty in a hurry with his push.

“One of the things with him was, a year ago — I remember a year ago — it was like, ‘we’re gonna push him, but we’re gonna wait for crowds,’ and now here’s crowds and they went all the way, right away. He’s always been, I mean it’s not like he’s not on the list to be pushed. I mean the reality is that if there were crowds, you know if was gonna do a program with Jericho when Jericho was world champion. That ended up not happening because we had a pandemic. Now Jericho is long gone as champion.”

We’ll have to see how things turn out for Kenny Omega and Jungle Boy’s match. AEW sees big things in Jungle Boy and his push has been planned for a while. Now the company has a chance to pull the trigger on his push and that appears to be exactly what they are doing. Live crowds will likely be singing his entrance music for a long time to come.
