Fenix was injured during a match with his real-life brother Penta on AEW Dynamite this week. He needed to be pulled from that match with Kenny Omega, but AEW is likely to circle back around to it.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that AEW has time after Full Gear to still give us that Fenix vs Kenny Omega match. In fact, it’s likely in the plans already.

“I’m pretty sure that they’re going to do Fenix vs [Omega] in another match stemming from this down the line and that probably it’s not as much certainty, but if we go with the idea that Omega is winning the tournament — and he’s defiantly the favorite then probably that would give them the great opportunity to give us another match — kinda like the briefcase thing. It’s like ‘well you never lost and people are waiting for that match.’ That gives you an excuse to do that match on TV and do the twenty-minute just freaking gangbusters match that they wanted to do this week [for next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite].”

That future match with Fenix and Omega could also have a #1 contender spot on the line. Adding that element could be a very interesting stipulation to a match that would have been already incredible as a simple singles match.
