Roman Reigns’ big return at SummerSlam was something that nobody saw coming. Even Alexa Bliss thought she was going to be used in that Universal Title match, but she was pulled.

The Big Dog’s return was kept as a big secret within the company. Only those select people directly involved knew as Ringside News reported that word of his return wasn’t known backstage until just prior to the Universal Title match.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE didn’t inform their advertising team about Roman Reigns’ return. Only a select few knew about it a day ahead of time. This is why the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match was the featured bout that saw so much advertising.

The marketing team even advertised the wrong match in one instance. An add featuring Asuka and Nia Jax as partners started making the rounds. This proved that WWE made a late switch.
