AEW Dynamite ran a special Saturday edition of the program this week due to the NBA Playoffs. Darby Allin won a quick match during that show, but he didn’t get a whole lot of offense in.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed Will Hobbs’ loss to Darby Allin. The indie wrestler lost to Allin, but he also practically squashed him until losing to a Coffin Drop. It was quite obvious that someone in AEW has their eye on Will Hobbs.

“It was three minutes, and it looked like a squash match on paper, but they gave Will Hobbs more than you would in a normal squash. Somebody wanted him to look good before losing. I mean, it was still a short match, and the announcers are putting him over, putting over his power. I mean on paper this is a squash match — three minutes sounds like a squash match, but the announcers and the way the match was put together was anything but a squash match.”

There might be more to come for Will Hobbs in AEW. He has an incredible look and was able to throw Darby Allin around the ring pretty well this week on Dynamite. Alan Angels started out in the same kind of role as he lost to Kenny Omega. Perhaps this is just the beginning for Will Hobbs.
