AEW lost in viewership to WWE NXT yet again this week. Tony Khan was quick to remind fans that viewership doesn’t matter as much as it did 20 years ago. Ratings are what matters to Khan, and AEW is winning in that department.

Writer Jon Snowden tweeted at Tony Khan and asked: “Do you need to win the demo? If you had the same number but WWE was incrementally more successful, would it hurt AEW/TNT?”

Tony Khan replied affirmatively and stated that he is “obsessed” with winning the 18-49 demographic. He then made a football reference trying to explain his point.

Yes, I’m obsessed with winning the demo, but our relative performance in the demo vs. all programming is the most important thing. It’s like, you want to pass for more yards than the opposing QB, it’s fun & an easy thing to track, but winning the game is what matters most by far.

AEW is “winning the game” as far as Tony Khan is concerned. Chris Jericho’s position is the exact same as well.

WWE might bring in more viewers, but those fans watching in the desired age demographic is what matters to advertisers. It is certainly something that Tony Khan is obsessing over.
