Rey Mysterio’s contract with WWE expired. He has been working without anything on paper, and McMahon won’t give him raise. This puts them in a unique situation.

Vince McMahon wants to book An Eye For An Eye match at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules. That match could see someone playing up an eye injury for a while.

WWE wants to hang onto Rey Mysterio as Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio (transcription by Ringside News). The company is in the middle of a long term storyline that they’ve been working on with his son Dominik for a long time now.

It’s a very vindictive business, but at the same time Rey’s been there they don’t want him leaving I can tell you that. You know they’ve got the Dominik storyline that they’re obviously working on. That’s one of the reasons that they’re doing all this. They’re working on a deal.

This is an ongoing situation that has not resolved itself yet. Rey Mysterio is apparently slated for a match with a stipulation that could permanently write an eye patch into his WWE character.

WWE obviously wants to keep Rey Mysterio around, but if they really want to prove it then they’ll meet his request for a raise.
