Edge made a big return at the 2020 Royal Rumble after denying his return for months. Fans who read between the lines understood what was going on, but the Rated R Superstar no-sold his WWE return until the night his music hit in January.

While appearing on WWE Backstage, Edge was asked about his WWE return and how it came together. It took a lot of work, but Edge was serious about giving fans a guttural reaction that they don’t get much anymore.

So many things are revealed online before they happen on television. WWE television is missing a lot of surprise moments because of that new mindset. Edge wanted his return to be something much different as he treated it like his baby.

“All of it just came together and it was this secretive thing that we tried to keep secret to get that guttural reaction because it all gets announced. That was really big to me and I protected that like it was my baby and I think the reaction, I think it worked it what I’m trying to say.”

Edge would have never guessed that his first singles match after nearly a decade out of the ring would take place in front of zero fans. Nobody could have predicted that, but at least Edge was able to give fans in Houston a huge pop at the Royal Rumble.
