Goldberg was set to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36, but the novel coronavirus caused those plans to change. The entire show of shows was moved to locations without live fans. Reigns didn’t compete either.

While speaking with Carcast, Goldberg said he doesn’t blame Roman Reigns for not working WrestleMania. He doesn’t even know why Reigns was still considered for the match to begin with once the COVID-19 situation broke out.

They invested a lot of time building spear vs spear match with Georgia themed football playing a backstory. It just wasn’t meant to be, but Goldberg understood. They also tried to tape the match separately before WrestleMania 36 aired, but that fell through as well.

“You know, obviously, I had a change of opponents at the very last moment. You know, Roman Reigns, everybody knows he has leukemia. You know, he’s in remission and his — obviously his immune system is down. And so, I don’t know why it was even considered in the beginning, except for the fact that we’d invested time and WWE invested the money in the angle, in the match, you know. So literally until the 23rd hour, it was still a possibility that he and I were going to wrestle. So plans kind of changed at the very last minute.”

“I did my match with Braun. and it was possible that I could do a match with Roman again before the fifth [the night the match aired]. That obviously fell through.”

Braun Strowman won the WWE Universal Title and now it appears that Bray Wyatt is his first challenger. This could be an interesting title run for Strowman in the WWE Performance Center. Let’s see if the Monster Among Men will remain champion long enough for him to carry that title into an arena full of WWE fans.

What would you do with Braun Strowman’s Title run? Do you blame Roman Reigns for not risking it? Sound off in the comments below!
