Hiroshi Tanahashi wants a shot at the AEW World Title if he can beat Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 14th. This is great set-up for a future match, but is there actually anything in place?

During Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez opened up about all he knows regarding the current situation between Jericho and Tanahashi. Although it might be fun to book NJPW/AEW dream matches it doesn’t appear that a deal has been actually worked out.

“What I can tell you about all of this is that to the absolute best of my knowledge from talking to a lot of people zero has changed in the AEW/ New Japan relationship.”

Chris Jericho is Le Champion of AEW and he is also signed to a deal with NJPW. That looks to be the extent of any working relationship between the two companies.

The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega spoke quite openly about leaving NJPW and their experiences. It doesn’t seem like anything has been repaired between those two sides.

It is very likely that Chris Jericho was always slated to win at the Tokyo Dome on January 5th. Adding a stipulation that teases Tanahashi coming to AEW is just making things more interesting for Wrestle Kingdom business.
