Stephen A. Smith isn’t just talking about being a WWE heel anymore — now he has a name in mind; it’s none other than Roman Reigns.

After weeks of teasing the idea of stepping into WWE territory and taking shots at Paul Heyman, Smith revealed on his podcast that he has actually thought about becoming a heel manager. When the question came up, he didn’t pick some random mid-card act either. He went straight to Roman Reigns.

“I’ve thought about doing the heel manager thing. Should I do it? Who would I manage? Roman Reigns.”

Danhausen immediately jumped in and asked the obvious question — does Stephen A. acknowledge Roman? Smith didn’t hesitate as he made it clear he acknowledges the Tribal Chief because he is big time.

“I acknowledge him. He’s big time—I wouldn’t have somebody that’s small time.”

That makes the whole thing even more interesting, because Smith has already been openly playing with WWE ideas. He previously said he could become the number one heel under Paul Heyman’s guidance, then claimed that he would out-heel Heyman and dress better than him. Now, instead of just talking about Heyman, he’s pointing directly at Heyman’s most famous client.

WWE has been interested in doing more with Smith because of his ESPN reach and crossover appeal, so this kind of talk is only going to get people wondering if something is actually being set up. Nobody is expecting Stephen A. to become a wrestler, but as a loudmouth celebrity manager or outside personality, the fit is pretty obvious.

Bottom line, Stephen A. Smith wants the biggest possible WWE limelight if he ever does this. He says he acknowledges Roman Reigns, and if he’s going to manage anyone, he wants “big time,” not small time.
