Eric Bischoff was fired from WWE after holding the position of Executive Director of SmackDown for just about four months. This was a shock to wrestling fans, but apparently not so much to those backstage.

Dave Meltzer reported that Bischoff was informed that he was fired after a creative meeting at WWE’s Stamford, CT headquarters yesterday. The news was kept quiet for a little while, but soon everyone knew.

It is reported by Sean Sapp that WWE Superstar discovered the news around 1:00 PM. This was just before WWE sent out the release and then it was making headlines all over the place.

Bruce Prichard will replace Eric Bischoff as Executive Director of SmackDown from this point on. He was already doing a large amount of what the Executive Director does anyway.

Since Bischoff never appeared on camera, there is no 90 day no-compete clause to his contract.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
