WWE wanted to move NXT to the USA Network before AEW had a chance to land on TNT. This meant that they had to make a consideration for a program that was currently on the air.

NXT will start airing on the USA Network next week, but they will only air an hour of the show for the first two weeks. The second hour will take place on the WWE Network. The reason for this is actually simpler than some people would think.

USA Network’s long-running show Suits is in its final season. They air that show on Wednesday nights, but they need to wrap it up before NXT comes along.

Bryan Alvarez explained the situation quite well during Wrestling Observer Live.

“Apparently, I think it’s Suits, apparently they’ve gotta finish off two episodes of that show and that’s why the first two episodes of NXT on the USA Network are only one hour with the second hour being on the WWE Network.”

This is a pretty good reason to split up NXT’s first two weeks as a live show. It might cut down on their viewership a little bit, but they needed to finish out airing Suits. It will also get NXT on television two weeks prior to AEW’s debut regardless.
