Vince McMahon has the power to do whatever he wants to in WWE because it’s his company. He also has a staff of writers who work really hard all week to compose a television product. However, Vince McMahon apparently didn’t like what they came up with this week.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Vince McMahon came in for SmackDown Live four hours before they were slated to go live and he re-wrote the show. This is why so many angles that were promoted throughout the week just didn’t happen.
“Okay, so this show is completely different than the show that was written. Because Vince McMahon showed up at 4:00 PM and decided that he didn’t like the show and re-did the show — Vince re-did the show at 4:00 PM before so everything changed.”
“That’s why all the stuff that was advertised — Bryan Danielson’s speech and Shawn Michaels announcing and all that stuff that they talked about all week and then didn’t happen is because Vince changed his mind.”
Since McMahon came in this week and changed everything he could around then that means there are ends that are yet to be connected with anything going on in the company’s future. There is no telling where WWE will be heading with Summerslam just weeks away, but they had a direction that Vince McMahon totally rewrote this week hours before the show went live.
