The IIconics are the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, but in the months since winning the titles at WrestleMania it doesn’t seem like they’ve had much of a challenge. They still appear with their titles and will get heat from the crowd, but WWE seems to only be booking them in squash matches against local enhancement talent.

Only in recent weeks have the Kabuki Warriors stepped up to face Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, but there might have been a good reason for that too. Because for the past couple of months The IIconics were apparently supposed to be feuding with The Bella Twins.

While speaking to Wrestling News, Nikki Bella revealed that WWE had made plans for Bella Twins return. This would have seen them battling the IIconics, but of course, due to Nikki’s injuries this could not take place. It still meant that the IIconics won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at the show of shows in preparation for this feud that never took place.

“Brie and I, we were gonna come back and fight for the tag titles after WrestleMania and we were gonna go against The IIconics for a few months.”

“Deep down inside, I kept having this weird feeling that I needed to get an x-ray on my neck because for a while I wasn’t feeling okay. Brie knows that in December after Evolution, I just kept telling her that I feel off and my head doesn’t feel right…”

It might have been a nice instance of coming full circle if The Bella Twins could have become WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, but that was not meant to be. Their angle was apparently scrapped, but that isn’t the end of Nikki & Brie as a team. They just have to team up in other ventures outside of wrestling.

In the meantime, The IIconics are still the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, but with the Kabuki Warriors hot on their heels you have to wonder how much longer their reign will last.
