SmackDown Live is coming to Fox on Fridays starting in October 2019. Therefore in one year’s time we’ll be asking ourselves if WWE was able to pull in the kind of viewers needed to keep a show on network television. But apparently, Fox is already positioning themselves to have WWE change the way they’re doing things.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Fox is building a Thursday through Sunday sports block on the Fox Network starting in 2019 and WWE is obviously going to hold down Friday nights. But Fox wants WWE to start presenting more pro wrestling on the show rather than comedy.
Going in a more sports direction means Vince McMahon will have to change up his preference of doing more comedy-related angles on the Blue Brand. Fox is also looking at having “their sports people on the different shows heavily promote it” as well so it would only stand to reason that Fox wants a sports show.
Therefore, WWE on Fox might already mean a change from the norm on SmackDown Live. After all, there aren’t many moments for a dance break during a sports show unless it’s a touchdown dance and that’s usually flagged for unnecessary celebration.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
