Plans Nixed for Top SummerSlam Match

Plans Nixed for Top SummerSlam Match

The original plan heading into this year’s SummerSlam event would have seen Jinder Mahal defending the WWE Championship against John Cena, however that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

Dave Meltzer reported on the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE appears to be building towards a match between Cena and AJ Styles at SummerSlam this year. Meltzer indicated that the planned match between Cena and Mahal may still take place at a later date but they aren’t doing it now.

Didn’t AJ beat Cena three times already. Why have them fight again? AJ can compete with someone else that seems like good competition for him.

You are absolutely right from the story point of view but I think WWE just wants to give fans a classical 5 star wrestling match as summerslam is their biggest ppv after wrestlemania.

In that case, make the match special and memorable. They work great together, tho.

Mmmm…. No. Styles beat him the first time, then Cena won along side Enxo and Cass against The Club, then Styles won at SummerSlam last year, and then Cena at the Rumble.

So they’re actually tied 2-2, now.

WWE doesn’t count Cena’s six-man tag win over Styles even though Cena pinned him in that match. Leading up to their match at Royal Rumble, AJ would always tell Cena he never beat him and WWE ran with that. So, in their book it’s 2-1 for Styles.

It’s a safe choice. Styles v cena won’t dissapoint. It’ll be a quality match styles gets the best out of cena , or they work great together however you wanna look at it.
I would have little interest in watching cena v Mahal anyway. I fear Mahal wouldn’t go over , but who knows in 2017.
I would like to watch them compete in the gym lmao, that would be interesting.

Oh boy, this is turning into the cena orton type of feud that seemed to go on forever
