The Young Bucks may be getting closer to the end of their wrestling careers, and there’s already been talk that Matt and Nick Jackson’s current AEW contract could be their last.
Dave Meltzer discussed the possibility on Wrestling Observer Radio while answering a question about whether Kenny Omega could eventually jump to WWE for the final stretch of his career. Meltzer doesn’t expect Omega to make that move, but the conversation quickly shifted to how much longer the rest of The Elite plans to keep wrestling.
According to Meltzer, Matt Jackson has already considered calling it a career. He also noted that Matt and Nick have made enough money that they aren’t in a position where they need to keep wrestling just for another paycheck.
“I’m not sure how much longer any of them are going to go because Matt considered stopping. Matt’s in his 40s, and they’re set. All of them, they’re all set for life. They’ve made a lot of money. They do their vacations and everything like that, but it’s not like they’re Ric Flair and they spend like crazy. They’re all set.”
Meltzer then got to the bigger part of the discussion. While Kenny Omega may try to wrestle as long as his body allows him, Meltzer said he has heard the possibility raised that Matt and Nick Jackson’s current AEW deals could be their final contracts.
“I think Kenny’s going to try to go as long as he can, but I could see Matt and Nick — I’ve heard it discussed that this might be their last contract.”
That doesn’t mean The Young Bucks have already decided on a retirement date. Meltzer made it clear that wrestlers have talked about hanging it up before, only to change their minds when another massive contract is put in front of them.
“People always say that, and there’s so much money thrown at you afterwards to stay, so you always do. But I don’t necessarily know. We’ll see what happens when the deal’s up.”
Meltzer also separated Hangman Page from the rest of that conversation, noting that Page is younger and likely has considerably more time left in his wrestling career.
“Adam Page will probably wrestle for many more years because he’s a lot younger than the other ones.”
The Young Bucks have been tied to AEW from the very beginning, so Matt and Nick Jackson eventually walking away would be a major change for a company they helped build. Nothing is set in stone yet, but the fact that a final contract is even being discussed puts a much different spotlight on what could be the closing stretch of their in-ring careers.
