Lil Yachty may be getting dragged by fans over his WWE run, but people inside the company apparently feel very differently about what he’s doing.
According to False Finish, Yachty has earned respect from people within WWE and around the wrestling business because of how seriously he has taken his current run.
“Lil Yachty has earned the respect of many within the company and industry due to his dedication to the business and taking it as serious as possible.”
That respect hasn’t come from simply showing up on television either. Yachty has been training at the WWE Performance Center ahead of his in-ring debut against Baron Corbin at Sunday Night’s Main Event, putting in actual work before stepping into the ring.
“Lil Yachty will be working with WWE for the foreseeable future. He has been training at the WWE Performance Center in preparation for his in-ring debut against Baron Corbin at Sunday Night’s Main Event.”
That also makes it clear WWE isn’t treating Yachty as a one-night celebrity cameo. The expectation is that he will continue working with the company beyond his match with Corbin. The internal reaction is a much different story from what WWE has been hearing online.
Triple H was hammered by fans after promoting Yachty vs. Corbin, with people questioning why WWE was giving a celebrity a featured match while full-time wrestlers were sitting on the sidelines.
Backstage, though, Yachty’s commitment apparently isn’t being viewed as some throwaway stunt. He has been training, putting time into learning the business and has earned respect for taking the opportunity seriously.
Yachty will make his in-ring debut against Corbin at Sunday Night’s Main Event with Trick Williams’ United States Championship hopes attached to the match. If Yachty survives five minutes, Trick gets another title shot. If Corbin beats him before time expires, Trick is out of chances.
Fans may hate the booking, but WWE’s internal stance on Yachty appears pretty clear: they like the effort he’s putting in, respect how seriously he’s approaching wrestling and plan on keeping him around.
