WWE’s official Facebook page got hacked Saturday, and the person behind it went straight for the crypto scam playbook.
A fake “WWE Coin” announcement suddenly appeared on WWE’s verified page, complete with a contract address and language meant to convince fans that the company had just launched its own cryptocurrency. A Ringside News reader sent word about the post while it was still fresh. Whoever had access to WWE’s page didn’t dance around what they were selling, either. The post flat-out claimed:
“WWE Coin is officially launching.”
That was the hook. The fake announcement then included a cryptocurrency contract address, which is where things got dangerous. Coming from some random Facebook account, most fans would probably scroll right past it. Coming directly from WWE’s verified page, it suddenly looked like the real deal. It wasn’t.
There is no legitimate WWE Coin launch connected to this post, and fans should stay far away from the contract address that was included. Don’t buy the coin, don’t send money and definitely don’t connect a crypto wallet to anything tied to the deleted post.
WWE also moved fast once the scam appeared. The post was deleted just 14 minutes after it went live, but that was still enough time for screenshots to spread and for fans to see the fake announcement sitting right there on WWE’s official Facebook page.
