WWE may be preparing for a much larger live event expansion if this summer’s house show schedule proves successful.
After WWE recently announced a renewed push for more summer live events, a new update from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select claims the company is already viewing these upcoming tours as a test run for potentially bringing back a more extensive winter touring loop in the future.
WWE management will evaluate both the financial performance of the shows and the physical toll on talent before deciding whether to move forward with an expanded touring schedule later in the year.
Also, select top stars were personally approached about working the house show loop and were given the option to decline participation if they did not want to take part in the additional live dates.
In addition, each event is expected to feature approximately 25 to 30 wrestlers per show as WWE attempts to balance giving younger talent more experience while still featuring recognizable main roster names.
The update comes after Triple H and WWE President Nick Khan recently explained internally that one of the biggest reasons behind increasing house shows again is the belief that younger wrestlers need more in-ring reps and more experience performing in front of live crowds.
WWE ees the non-televised events as valuable opportunities for developing talent, experimenting with matches and story ideas, and helping wrestlers improve without the pressure of live television.
The company significantly scaled back house shows following the Endeavor merger in 2023, resulting in many wrestlers — especially newer talent — working far fewer matches throughout the year. Now, WWE appears to believe the reduced schedule may have slowed development for some performers.
WWE’s summer live event tour is currently set to begin July 11 in New Mexico, with additional stops planned across multiple states throughout the summer.
If the tour performs well financially and talent remains healthy throughout the schedule, WWE could end up bringing back a much more aggressive live event strategy moving forward.
