WWE may already be working on a major rebuild of its tag team division following a wave of departures after WrestleMania 42.

In the weeks following WrestleMania, several tag teams and tag team wrestlers exited the company, leaving noticeable holes across both RAW and SmackDown. Among the names gone are The Wyatt Sicks, Motor City Machine Guns members Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, as well as Tonga Loa and Jeff Cobb from the MFTs. New Day also split from WWE after Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston were said to have left following requests to take pay cuts.

Now, according to a new report from False Finish, WWE is actively trying to rebuild the division internally while also scouting outside talent from other wrestling promotions. The report states WWE wants to strengthen tag team wrestling from within its current roster while simultaneously exploring the possibility of bringing in established teams from elsewhere in the wrestling industry in the near future.

Even with the recent exits, several teams are still heavily featured on WWE programming. The Street Profits remain one of the company’s top teams and are scheduled to challenge Austin Theory and Logan Paul for the World Tag Team Championships at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 23.

Axiom and Nathan Frazer also continue appearing regularly on SmackDown, while teams and factions like The Usos, Los Americanos, Los Americanos Hermanos, and The War Raiders are still active across WWE programming and AAA-related crossover appearances.

Tag team wrestling has often fluctuated in importance inside WWE depending on the creative direction at the time. However, with several established teams now gone, it appears WWE is taking steps behind the scenes to rebuild depth before the division becomes too thin.

At this point, there’s no word yet on which outside teams WWE may have interest in signing, but the company clearly appears focused on strengthening the division moving forward.

Which tag teams from outside WWE would you want to see brought into the company? Let us know your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
