WWE just stacked its return to Mexico City with three major matches, including two title bouts and a grudge match that has already gotten brutally personal.
The September 11 episode of SmackDown will air live from Arena CDMX in Mexico City, marking WWE’s first SmackDown from the city in 15 years.
The biggest addition came at the end of the September 4 show. After CM Punk retained the WWE Championship against Johnny Gargano, Punk called out Sami Zayn and challenged him to a title match in Mexico City.
Chelsea Green also found out who’s next for her WWE Women’s Championship. Green was cleared to return as long as she wears a protective face mask, and things quickly got crowded when Nia Jax, Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton all came looking for a title opportunity. Nick Aldis eventually put Jax against Stratton on the spot. Nia won, and WWE then made Green vs. Jax official for Mexico City.
Paige and Nikki Bella are also getting their hands on each other after their feud went nuclear backstage. The two traded deeply personal shots on SmackDown, with Paige even using John Cena’s famous “hustle, loyalty and respect” line against Nikki before taking another jab at her relationship history. That argument now has an official payoff, with Paige vs. Nikki set for September 11.
The updated WWE SmackDown card for Mexico City currently looks like this:
- WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Sami Zayn
- WWE Women’s Championship: Chelsea Green (c) vs. Nia Jax
- Paige vs. Nikki Bella
- AAA Tag Team Championship: War Raiders (c) vs. Damian Priest & R-Truth
WWE isn’t treating Mexico City like an ordinary Friday night. Two championships are already on the line, Paige and Nikki finally get to settle things in the ring, and there’s still another week for WWE to add even more to the card.
