WWE pushed Sol Ruca into a major title match against Becky Lynch, but not everyone backstage apparently viewed it as a simple call.

According to Fightful Select, there was internal discussion in WWE about Ruca being booked in a championship match despite the fact that she has not secured a pinfall win on the main roster. Even with that concern being brought up, WWE still moved forward with the match.

“There was some internal discussion about Sol Ruca being booked in a title match without having secured a pinfall win on the main roster, but it was booked anyway.”

That is the big wrinkle heading into Clash in Italy. Ruca is being placed in a title match with one of WWE’s biggest names before she has that kind of main roster win on her résumé, and WWE knew that detail could raise questions.

The match comes after Ruca faced Becky Lynch in a non-title match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Fort Wayne, Indiana. That bout ended in controversy after Lynch pulled referee Jessika Carr into the path of a Sol Snatcher, causing a disqualification.

Lynch then attacked Ruca after the bell and dropped her with multiple Man Handle Slams, creating concern about whether Ruca would even make it to Italy. Becky later mocked Ruca on Twitter and claimed she was not medically cleared.

“I told Sol Puka (cause she makes me want to puke!!!!!) she wasn’t ready to step in the ring with me and she didn’t listen!!!!! I hope she make it to Italy although she’s not medically cleared! Some people think it’s because she LOST HER MIND!”

PWInsider later stated that Ruca did get banged up at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but WWE sources indicated she was traveling to Italy for Clash in Italy.

“In regard to Becky Lynch saying Sol Ruca was not medically cleared to wrestle, Ruca got banged up at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, WWE sources indicated this afternoon that Ruca is traveling to Italy for Clash In Italy today, so she will be there.”

That means WWE is still moving forward with Ruca in the title picture, even after the injury scare and even after some backstage talk about whether she had enough main roster momentum to justify the match.

Ruca’s push has been fast, and this title match puts her in a serious spotlight. WWE could have waited until she picked up a main roster pinfall win, but they decided to pull the trigger anyway and put her across from Lynch on a major international card.

Now the pressure is on Ruca to prove that WWE made the right call. The company had internal talk about the booking, but the match is still happening, and Clash in Italy could become the moment that decides whether Ruca’s quick rise was worth the gamble.
