WWE could be getting ready to bring Sin Cara back, but not necessarily the man who previously wore the mask. The company has reportedly started kicking around ideas for resurrecting the character with an entirely new wrestler taking over the role.

According to PWInsider, there have been early pitches within WWE centered around bringing the Sin Cara character back. Nothing has been finalized yet, but the concept is officially being discussed. The biggest twist is that WWE apparently isn’t looking at this as a comeback for the previous Sin Cara. If the company actually moves forward with the idea, the current pitch would put somebody new underneath the mask.

There’s no word yet on who WWE might have in mind for the role, and the report doesn’t indicate how far along those conversations have gotten. For now, these are simply early pitches, so there’s no guarantee Sin Cara will actually return to television.

The timing is pretty interesting considering the previous Sin Cara was just talking about wanting another shot at the character last month. Speaking to TMZ’s Inside the Ring in September, he admitted he would happily return to WWE and put the mask back on if the company ever approached him.

“For me, I wouldn’t mind coming back. If they would ask me or we would talk, ‘Hey, you want to portray Sin Cara again?’ I would love to do that definitely again and give it another shot.”

He also explained that he’s matured considerably since his original WWE run and believes he would approach things differently today. His first stint ended after he publicly requested his release in November 2019, with WWE eventually granting it the following month.

“It’s something that I really think about sometimes in my head. Like, what if this and what if that happen? And in wrestling, anything is possible. You understand that?”

Apparently, something involving Sin Cara really could happen again — just potentially without him. WWE owns the character, and if these early pitches eventually turn into actual plans, fans could end up seeing a completely new wrestler trying to make the mask their own.

That creates an interesting wrinkle after the former Sin Cara openly talked about wanting another chance just weeks ago. WWE hasn’t committed to bringing the character back yet, but if it does, the bigger story may quickly become who the company trusts to inherit the mask.
