Wren Sinclair made it to WWE, but apparently there was a point when she was being told that ship had already sailed. The NXT star revealed that before finally getting signed in 2023, she actually heard that she was “too old for WWE” and should start looking somewhere else.
Speaking to TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Wren was asked whether she thinks she’d still be wrestling today if WWE hadn’t eventually come calling. She initially wanted absolutely nothing to do with imagining that alternate timeline.
“Um, let’s just not say I didn’t get signed. Um, no, I’m kidding.”
Once the question got a little more serious, so did Wren. She admitted there were definitely moments before WWE when injuries had her wondering whether continuing to chase wrestling was even worth it.
“Yeah. Um, so I think wrestling holds a really special place in my heart, and I definitely think there were times, um, injuries, where you question whether or not it’s worth it.”
Then came the part that makes her eventual WWE signing even more interesting. Wren revealed that she was actually told at one point that she was too old for WWE and should turn her attention somewhere else.
“Um, there were times in the process where I actually heard, like, uh, that I’m too old for WWE, um, and to, like, look elsewhere and whatnot.”
Wren didn’t say exactly who told her that, so she’s not putting a name or face behind the comment. What she did admit is that if WWE hadn’t eventually signed her, there’s no guarantee she would still be wrestling today.
“And I think at the end of the day, um, I’m not sure because I think I love this so much that it hurts sometimes when it doesn’t love you back.”
That uncertainty wasn’t just about whether another wrestling company would have given her an opportunity. Wren also brought up her mental health and acknowledged that whatever happened after another WWE rejection could have determined whether she kept going at all.
“Um, and I’m a big proponent of mental health. So, depending on the journey that happened after, uh, said not being signed, um, I’m not sure.”
Thankfully for Wren, she never had to find out how that version of the story ended. WWE ultimately signed her in 2023, and after everything it took to get there, she’s joking that the company is going to have a pretty difficult time getting rid of her now.
“But I’m glad that I’m here, and I’m going to hold on to this, and I’m just never going to let them fire me.”
Being told she was “too old” could have easily been the moment Wren decided to walk away, especially with injuries already making her question her future. Instead, she eventually got the WWE opportunity she was chasing, and now she’s holding onto it as tightly as she can.
