Willow Nightingale is definitely heading into AEW All In with a broken hand, but she still doesn’t know exactly how bad the damage is. With her Women’s World Championship defense against Mercedes Moné less than two days away, Willow says an X-ray will determine just how much use she’ll actually have of the hand at Wembley Stadium.
Speaking to POST Wrestling, Willow was asked directly about the injury after Tony Khan previously confirmed that she had suffered a broken hand. Willow revealed that she still needs further examination to determine how heavily the hand will need to be protected during the match.
“Well, she’s broken. I have to go get an X-ray later today to figure out the severity of that. Because that would then inform just how guarded it has to be on Sunday, whether I’m able to get any kind of, like, wrist flexibility or just hands, or if I’m going to kind of have a situation like this where I’m just like a stump. So, we’ll see. We’ll see.”
So the match is still happening, but Willow could be working with some pretty serious limitations. Depending on what the X-ray shows, she may have some wrist movement or could end up with the hand heavily protected throughout the match. None of that has changed Willow’s intention to defend her championship. Whatever condition the hand is in by Sunday, she says the rest of her is ready to go.
“But the heart is good. She’s full of love and passion and ready to fight.”
Mercedes already knows exactly where Willow is hurt, and AEW has worked the legitimate injury into their television story. During Dynamite in Glasgow, Moné attacked the hand backstage, and Willow says Mercedes only made an already bad situation worse.
“There was a second Mercedes, right? Mercedes, angry, mean woman, stomping on it, throwing the title at it, hitting it with a chair. That part, disheartening, but not surprising.”
Tony Khan previously revealed that Willow’s broken hand forced AEW to change some plans during the Dynamite and Collision tapings, but her All In match remains on. Now the biggest question isn’t whether Willow will wrestle—it’s how much she’ll actually be able to do with that hand once the bell rings.
