Will Ospreay survived a chaotic main event on AEW Dynamite and punched his ticket forward in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
Ospreay faced Mark Davis in the men’s tournament semifinal during the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite. The match was physical from the start, with Davis using his size and power to slow Ospreay down while Ospreay kept fighting back with speed, counters, and high-impact offense.
Davis controlled big portions of the match and gave Ospreay plenty of trouble. He threw him into the announce desk, hit a suplex from the top rope, landed a piledriver, and kept forcing Ospreay to dig deeper.
Ospreay eventually fought back and hit a Styles Clash for a near fall, but the match completely broke down from there. The Don Callis Family came out while the referee was down, leading to a wild scene with Daniel Garcia, Wheeler Yuta, Lance Archer, Claudio Castagnoli, Brian Cage, PAC, Marina Shafir, Jon Moxley, Kyle Fletcher, and Konosuke Takeshita all getting involved.
Fletcher returned with a screwdriver and tried to brutalize Ospreay, but Takeshita showed up to stop him. Ospreay then knocked the screwdriver away from Davis and hit his finisher, but the referee was still down, giving Davis enough time to kick out once the count finally happened.
Davis nearly stole the win late, but Ospreay refused to stay down. Ospreay eventually locked in a submission and forced Davis to tap out, giving him the win in the main event.
With the victory, Will Ospreay advanced in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament after surviving one of the wildest matches of the night. The win keeps Ospreay’s momentum going and puts him one step closer to winning the tournament. AEW also made it clear that his issues with the Don Callis Family are far from over, especially after all the chaos that surrounded the finish.
