WWE’s WarGames plans are starting to come into focus, and The Bloodline vs. 946 apparently won’t be stopping at the four-on-four fight fans saw on RAW. The company is planning to go five-on-five this year, which leaves one open spot on each side and two potentially huge reveals still to come.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the plan as of Monday was to use five-person teams for this year’s WarGames match. That means Roman Reigns, The Usos and Solo Sikoa aren’t quite a complete team just yet.
“Amid the rumors following Monday Night Raw and the four-on-four showdown between The Bloodline and 946, a source indicated that as of Monday, the plan is for this year’s WarGames match is to feature teams of five.”
WWE has switched between four-on-four and five-on-five versions of WarGames over the years, so there was still some question about which direction the company would take this time. According to the latest update, WWE is sticking with the five-person format it has recently used on the main roster.
“Since bringing back the match concept, WWE has utilized different formats, with teams ranging from four to five members on each side. However, it appears that this year’s installment will follow the recent trend on the main roster and feature the traditional five-on-five setup, pitting The Bloodline against The 946.”
That suddenly makes the biggest question surrounding this feud pretty obvious — who gets those final two spots? Roman, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso and Solo already have four places covered for The Bloodline, while Royce Keys, Carmelo Hayes, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price make up the four-man group they’ve been fighting.
Jaida Parker has also been heavily involved with 946, including during Monday’s wild closing segment, but the report doesn’t say who WWE has in mind as the fifth competitor for either team. For now, those spots remain wide open.
The latest update also adds another piece to what Dave Meltzer reported following RAW. While discussing whether Monday’s huge Bloodline and 946 brawl was setting up WarGames, Meltzer made it clear that was WWE’s direction: “Well, it is.”
Monday’s closing angle certainly looked like WWE was getting everyone into position. The Usos initially called out 946 before Solo joined the fight, but the numbers eventually caught up with them after Hayes used a crowbar and Jaida brought out handcuffs.
That’s when Roman’s music hit and San Diego came unglued. Reigns stormed the ring, reunited with his family and helped send 946 packing after dropping Keys with a Superman Punch and Nima with a Spear.
Roman standing alongside Solo and The Usos already gave WWE its core WarGames team, but apparently the family still needs one more person before they can walk into the cage. With 946 also needing another competitor, WWE now has two mystery spots it can play with on the road to Survivor Series.
Those fifth-member reveals could end up being just as important as the match itself. WWE already has the two sides ready for war, and now it has a couple of open spots that could add another wrinkle to the rivalry before November 28.
