Sheamus is officially a free agent, but as of right now, he has not signed with AEW and there’s no indication that a debut is locked in.
The former WWE Champion’s deal expired as October began, opening the door for him to speak with other companies. While AEW is one obvious possibility, there have not been substantial talks between Sheamus and the company yet.
What has happened is internal interest. According to Fightful Select, several veteran names in AEW have pushed for Sheamus to be signed. Those wrestlers are said to be people who worked with him in the past and would like to see him join the company.
That still doesn’t mean a deal is close. AEW and Tony Khan have been careful about contacting talent before they are fully contractually free, even in situations where there would likely be no legal issue. The company’s preference has been to wait until a wrestler is officially available before having those conversations.
Now that Sheamus is a free agent, that restriction is no longer an issue. At the moment, though, the situation is still wide open. Sheamus has not signed with AEW, there hasn’t been a debut, and there’s no confirmed agreement in place.
AEW also isn’t the only company interested. TNA is among the promotions that have shown interest in bringing Sheamus in, giving him multiple options as he decides what comes next.
So the current picture is pretty simple: Sheamus is available, AEW veterans want him, AEW can now legally talk to him, but nothing has been finalized. Until that changes, his next move is still very much up in the air.
