Jim Cornette didn’t waste much time ripping Vince Russo over his JCW exit, but Russo wasn’t about to let that slide. After hearing Cornette’s latest podcast, Russo fired right back and accused his longtime rival of spending years waiting for another chance to take shots at him.
Speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, Russo said he only ended up hearing Cornette’s comments because Coach sent them over. From Russo’s perspective, Cornette had been waiting for his JCW run to end so he could immediately turn it into another podcast.
“I actually only saw it because Coach sent it to me. Cornette could not wait to do a show about me leaving JCW. Bro, whatever his spin is, the dude was literally sitting there for a year waiting for the relationship to end so he could be all over it. Bro, get a life.”
Russo couldn’t understand why someone would spend that much time waiting for another person’s job to end. He said every working relationship eventually comes to an end, but claimed Cornette was ready to jump on the story the second it happened.
“Like, seriously, man, with all due respect, if you’re sitting there every calendar month waiting for my arrangement with JCW to come to an end… when it’s gonna come to an end, sooner or later it’s gonna come to an end. And the minute it happens, you are all over it with a podcast and headlines. Bro, seriously, do something with yourself.”
Russo also argued this wasn’t anything new between them. He went all the way back to his WWE departure in 1999 and claimed Cornette never confronted him while they actually worked together, saying everything changed only after he left the company.
“I can’t believe this guy. Bro, it started with Jim Cornette. I left WWE in 1999, okay? The whole time I was working with him, worked side by side with him, he never said anything to my face, never said a cross word to me, never challenged me or threatened me.”
Russo then made a much more serious claim, alleging that Cornette left him a threatening voicemail after he departed WWE. Looking back on everything that’s happened since then, Russo said what amazes him most is that the rivalry has apparently carried on for nearly three decades.
“Bro, the day I left, he left a threatening phone call on my voicemail! He was gonna kill me, kill my family. Bro, that was 1999. Twenty-seven years later, you gotta give him credit for that. Oh my God! To be dogging someone for 27 years? I would just be exhausted if it were me, Coach.”
Cornette spent his recent podcast arguing that Russo’s explanation for leaving JCW didn’t make sense because Russo was the one booking the shows. Russo clearly sees things very differently, accusing Cornette of turning his departure into yet another excuse to keep a feud that’s been going since the late ’90s alive. Given the history between these two, it probably won’t be long before one of them has something else to say.
