Madonna’s opening performance at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards got plenty of people talking, but Vince Russo wasn’t interested in discussing the music. The former WWE writer had one question after watching the show, and it was entirely about Madonna’s wardrobe.
Speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, Russo zeroed in on the corset Madonna wore during her performance with Sabrina Carpenter. He wondered if there should be an age where performers simply stop wearing outfits like that, before calling out the pop icon by name.
“Coach, what’s our cutoff age for a female to wear a corset? What’s the cutoff year? Like, how old are you that we gotta cut off wearing a corset? Madonna, at 68 years old, cannot be wearing a corset! Yeah, the VMAs.”
Vince Russo wasn’t done there, either. He then spoke directly to Madonna, joking that he’d heard she watches the show before pleading with her to retire the look altogether.
“Madonna, listen to me—I know she watches this show, I heard. Madonna, listen to me. Wearing a corset at 68 is not doing anything for anybody. Please, stop. Stop!”
Madonna opened this year’s VMAs alongside Sabrina Carpenter, marking her first performance at the awards show in more than two decades. The performance featured the pair singing Bring Your Love before Madonna shed a black waistcoat to reveal the red-and-black corset that ultimately caught Russo’s attention.
Bottom line: While plenty of fans focused on Madonna’s long-awaited return to the VMAs, Vince Russo clearly walked away talking about something else entirely.
