Vince Russo thinks WWE may be setting the table for something nobody saw coming — Vince McMahon getting back in the saddle.
During an interview on Interactive Wrestling Radio, Russo was asked about the wrestling business now that McMahon is no longer running WWE. Russo made it clear he never thought that day would happen, and he thinks the business has taken a hit without McMahon in control. Russo first said he believes McMahon is positioning himself for a comeback while pointing to legal matters that he believes are being cleared away.
“I never thought the day would come in a million years. I think the wrestling business is a lot worse without Vince McMahon. And I think currently Vince is clearing the deck to make a big comeback. Man, we just saw the u the shareholder um lawsuit. We just saw that put to bed with a settlement. Now it looks like he’s going to settle with Janelle Grant.”
That alone is a big statement, but Russo did not stop there. His bigger point was that he believes the people around WWE and TKO are not happy with the current television numbers, even if the company is still landing massive business deals. Russo said he does not believe the people running TKO are satisfied with WWE’s current viewership situation.
“And once that happens, we know Vince’s relationship with Ari. There is nobody in the world that can tell me that the the people running TKO are happy with the numbers. Uh I’m talking TV numbers, viewership numbers, not dollars and cents. They’ve they’ve cut some great deals. I’m talking about the product on television.”
That is where Russo’s real claim comes in. The host asked if Russo meant McMahon returning to WWE or starting something new. Russo made it clear he was talking about WWE, and he said he believes the company is clearing the field for that to happen.
“I could would not believe for a second that they’re happy with that. And I really believe that they’re clearing the field and Vince is gonna be back in the saddle again.”
That changes the whole weight of the comment. Russo is not just saying McMahon wants back in. He is saying he believes WWE and TKO could be lining things up for McMahon to return once the path is clear.
McMahon’s WWE exit remains one of the biggest shakeups the wrestling business has ever seen, and plenty of fans would have a strong reaction to the idea of him ever coming back. Russo, though, seems convinced that the door is not closed. In his view, WWE’s current direction and viewership struggles could open the door for McMahon to re-enter the picture.
