Jimmy Jacobs isn’t holding back when it comes to what it was like working for Vince McMahon in WWE. The former WWE writer called McMahon a “psychopath,” a “bully” and an “abuser” while explaining why he found working under him so difficult.
Speaking to Till Five Wrestling, Jacobs was reminded of his previous comments about struggling to satisfy McMahon during his time on WWE’s creative team. Jacobs summed up the experience by saying there was simply no pleasing the man in charge.
“There is no pleasing the mad king. I had a challenging time working for Vince. Yeah.”
When the interviewer suggested that people who genuinely loved wrestling sometimes had a particularly difficult time working with McMahon, Jacobs took things much further. He said he viewed McMahon as a “crazy person” before repeatedly describing him as a psychopath.
“Vince is a—he was a crazy person. Vince McMahon was like a psychopath. Like a psychopath. Vince McMahon was a psychopath.”
Jacobs made it clear he wasn’t simply throwing the word around for dramatic effect. In his personal assessment of McMahon, he believed that was genuinely the type of personality he was dealing with.
“That’s the sort of personality type he is, right? He’s like an overt malignant narcissist. Not to use catchphrase words, because I’m not using that hyperbolically. I’m using that like that’s his personality type.”
Being around McMahon also changed the way Jacobs looked at his wealth and power. Despite everything McMahon had accumulated through WWE, Jacobs said it didn’t take him long to realize he would never want to trade lives with his former boss.
“I was around Vince McMahon not very long before I saw, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t trade places with this guy for one second.’ Not for one second.”
Jacobs then offered an even harsher assessment of McMahon’s character. These were Jacobs’ personal claims and descriptions of his former boss, but he didn’t leave much room for interpretation about how he felt.
“Because for everything he has, he has nothing because he’s a psychopath. And when you’re a psychopath, you’re incapable of love. And so Vince McMahon’s a bully. He’s a maniac. He’s an abuser.”
Jacobs also addressed the negative stories that have emerged about McMahon over the years. From his own experience around him, Jacobs claimed those stories fit with the person he knew.
“He’s all of the things that, you know, ‘Oh, this has come out. Is this like Vince?’ Every story you’ve heard about him, it’s something like true. Like, that’s who he is.”
Ultimately, Jacobs said working under someone he viewed that way was simply difficult, and he wasn’t the only person who struggled with it. His comments paint a pretty brutal picture of his experience inside WWE’s creative system during the McMahon era.
“So yeah, it’s hard. It’s hard to work for bullies and psychopaths. That’s challenging, and I had a challenging time with that, and other people did too.”
Jacobs has previously been open about the frustrations that came with working on WWE’s creative team, but these comments go well beyond criticizing how McMahon ran the writers’ room. This time, Jacobs made the criticism deeply personal and left absolutely no doubt about how negatively he views his former boss.
