Val Venis saw Mike Bailey complaining about Twitter being filled with trolls and rage-bait, and his response was to go directly after Bailey’s non-binary identity. Venis says he doesn’t understand why the AEW star is apparently “afraid” of embracing being a man.
The former WWE Superstar took to Twitter after Mike Bailey’s recent comments about social media and made Bailey’s gender identity the entire focus of his response, questioning why Bailey doesn’t embrace being a man.
“Apparently Speedball identifies as non-binary. Being a MAN is AWESOME! I don’t understand why this guy is so afraid of embracing being a MAN!”
That came after Bailey spoke to POST Wrestling ahead of AEW All In London and absolutely trashed what Twitter has become. Bailey still believes social media is an important tool for wrestlers, but thinks the platform itself has turned into an awful place filled with people deliberately trying to make others angry.
“Twitter, for many, many reasons, is an awful, awful place. The algorithm is politically biased and ruined, and most people on it are just rage-baiting and bad and trolling. It’s a terrible place.”
Bailey’s problem with Twitter isn’t enough to make him abandon it. He believes wrestlers need social media to continue connecting with fans after television ends, and he tries to use his own platform to interact with people without feeding into the trolling he sees everywhere else.
Bailey hasn’t publicly responded to Venis’ remarks, but the timing is certainly something. Bailey had just complained about Twitter being dominated by rage-baiting and trolling, and now Venis has turned his comments into an attack on Bailey’s identity.
