Triple H didn’t hide the reality behind Trick Williams’ rise, admitting that WWE intentionally kept him waiting in developmental even when he believed he was ready for bigger opportunities.

During a conversation with Shawn Michaels published on Variety’s YouTube channel, Triple H pointed to Trick Williams as an example of how WWE handles promising talent who feel ready to move faster than the company allows.

According to Triple H, Williams experienced the same frustration many rising stars face — believing he was prepared while WWE leadership saw areas that still needed refinement. Triple H recalled explaining the reasoning directly to Williams once he finally reached a major milestone.

“I just said it to Trick the other night. It gets to WrestleMania match, and he’s so excited, and he was being thankful for all the positioning. And I said, look, ‘I’m thankful that you’re ready to get there.’ I said, ‘So now look back on the frustration that you had of being in a time where you knew you were ready in your mind. We were screwing you over by keeping you in developmental and trying to get you.’ I said, ‘But we’re getting you ready for this. We believed you weren’t quite ready yet and that you could benefit more, even if it was just slightly, from baking a little bit longer.’”

Triple H explained that the extra time wasn’t meant to slow Williams down — it was meant to sharpen him. WWE leadership believed that allowing him more time to develop would ultimately help him succeed once the spotlight became bigger and expectations increased.

He also noted that this process isn’t unique to Williams. Many performers feel held back at some point in their careers, but leadership views patience as a necessary step toward long-term success rather than a sign of doubt.

Williams’ situation highlights how WWE evaluates talent readiness behind the scenes, often making decisions based on long-term potential rather than immediate momentum.
