Triple H thinks some wrestling legends have a serious case of selective memory. The WWE Chief Content Officer is firing back at the growing criticism surrounding WWE Unreal, calling out the veterans who say the series exposes too much of the wrestling business. His reason? According to Triple H, those same people spend hours every week doing exactly that on their own podcasts.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Triple H laughed at the backlash and said the wrestling business simply doesn’t operate the way it used to. Fans already know far more about what happens behind the curtain than they did years ago, and he believes WWE Unreal is simply reflecting that reality.
“It’s a funny thing now, though, because of the business, because the paradigm has shifted to some degree. Everybody kind of knows what it is. We’ve opened that wide open with WWE Unreal.”
Then came the shot. Without naming anyone specifically, Triple H took aim at the legends who accuse WWE of exposing too much of the business, saying he can’t help but laugh when he hears those complaints coming from people whose entire podcasts revolve around backstage stories, insider information and wrestling gossip.
“It does make me laugh, though, when I see the old-timers who are legends in our business talking about, ‘They give away too much, and they tell people the insider stuff too much.’ Meanwhile, they’re on a podcast where they do exactly that every single day, and they have been doing it for years. But it’s okay when they do it, right?”
It’s a debate that’s followed WWE Unreal since the series launched. While some fans have praised WWE for giving viewers unprecedented access behind the scenes, others—including several veterans—have argued the company is exposing the business too much. Triple H clearly isn’t losing any sleep over those complaints, especially when he believes many of the loudest critics helped normalize that kind of backstage discussion long before WWE ever put cameras there.
Do you agree with Triple H that the critics are being hypocritical, or do you think WWE Unreal has gone too far in exposing the business? Let us know in the comments below.
