LA Knight has spent years getting some of the loudest reactions in WWE without ever becoming world champion. Vince Russo thinks there may be something standing between Knight and the top of the mountain—and claims a WWE wrestler told him it’s Triple H.
While speaking with Ben Veal, Russo was discussing what he believes happens when the people running a wrestling company start booking based on who they personally like. In Russo’s mind, everyone on the roster should get the same opportunity.
“When you have writers, the writers are looking at the actors in the movie. Okay? There are no favorites. Everybody has the same opportunity. When you watch Unreal, when you listen to the Michael Hayes and these people talk, there are people they like and there are people they don’t like. And that’s what’s coming across on television. The guys on top are people they like. The guys that can’t break that ceiling are people that they’re not behind.”
That’s when Russo brought up LA Knight. According to Russo, one WWE wrestler told him directly that Triple H doesn’t like Knight. Russo even claimed Triple H openly pokes fun at him.
“I was told by one of the boys, you know, flat out, Triple H does not like LA Knight. And he kind of openly pokes fun at LA Knight, bro. If he doesn’t like LA Knight, how is LA Knight ever going to get over, you know?”
Russo’s point was what that would mean if it’s true. Knight can get the reactions. He can sell the merchandise. He can have an entire arena screaming “YEAH!” along with him. None of that necessarily gets him through the ceiling if the person overseeing WWE creative isn’t behind him. He made it clear they shouldn’t have favorites in WWE.
“Bro, you can’t have favorites. And I never ever had favorites when I was writing for any wrestling company. Man, if your name was on that roster, you were going to get a fair shake like everybody else.”
Despite becoming one of WWE’s biggest fan favorites, Knight has never held the WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Championship, but that may be about to get another test.
Knight is currently feuding with The Bloodline, while reports claim he is expected to challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank later this year. Knight has already proven he can get over with the fans, but Russo’s claim is that the harder person to win over may have been the guy booking the show.
